Exercise Does Help!!

A little history: My fiance has seen a steady decline in his PFTs over the past 2 years and in the spring, he was put on IV antibiotics because he had gone from FEV1 of 41 to 37. After the antibiotic treatment, his FEV1 came back up to 40. The Dr. put him on cayston for a month, took him off and tested him again, no change, he stayed the same. So at that appointment I asked the Dr. for more information about his CF bugs and what he thought about excercise. He said he's seen very positive results from people who excercise regularly. My fiance and I talked afterwards and I told him about all the positive results I have seen with people on this forum, so he started walking everyday (20 mins each time), doing push-ups and sit-ups too. He has been following this rutine for the past 3 months.

Result: Today he went in for his normal check-up and his FEV1 is now 44! Woohoo!! It's the first increase he has seen in the past 2 years and to go up by 4 I think is just great. We are very happy and the good news couldn't have come at a better time because we are leaving in 2 1/2 weeks to get married.

Thanks to everyone here for talking so much about excercise and how it can help! It was really inspiring for me. We're going to shoot for low 50's at the next appointment!!

Great news! My son sees a Physical Therapist once a year and she always stresses the importance of exercise.

Congrats on your upcoming marriage!
AWESOME! Exercise is one of the keys to survival! Good luck and tell him to keep up the great work. Even if some days are not as good work out days as others at least he does something. Also, he should give himself permission to rest too. Some days or during sometimes it is just not feasible to work out and your body needs to rest to fight infection. But all in all keeping up an exercise routine and doing it consistently is great!
