Exercise...

Hi Mary, It's good to see you
I can tend to get lazy myself so i try to sneak in my exercise in several ways. I park my car far from the entrance when i go to the store. I go to walmart or any large store just to walk around aisle to aisle. I may stop here and there to look at some things i may actually buy, but i pretty much try to make sure to walk all of the aisles to sneak in some exercise. At least that way it doesnt seem like the same ol' redundant routine of walking on a treadmill or being on a stantionary bike. Last weekend i went to the beach and walked on the beach to the water. Walking on sand is tough....Then i walked on the boardwalk for a while so i knew i certainly did not need to do any treadmill that night. Sometimes while i am sitting watching tv i wil do leg lifts, and i also have one of those silly pedal things you can use to pedal away with, like a bike. There are always sneaky ways to get your exercise without actually "exercising" so to speak.... When i want some formal exercise to get my heart rate up i uually get on the treadmill. But for days when i just dont feel like it i find more fun ways to sneak in my exercise.

The first three weeks I got into exercising this summer, all I could do was walk for 20 min and I was crampy, SOB and achy. The next two weeks, I was on vacation and had the time/energy to walk for 40 min and started working in jogging as well (block by block).
Now that I am back to my regular life, I find that I can exercise almost everyday by aiming small: 20-30 minutes only, including warm-up and stretch. Longer than that and I would probably make excuses not to do it.
I also started by telling myself never to let more than one day pass without doing something (for me a pilates video or a walk/jog). To be honest, because of an endorphin-addiction thing, these days, I am forcing myself to take a day off. No matter how crappy I feel before and during the exercise, I always feel good after--even if it is just mentally good.
Good luck!

Hi,
I have tried to consistently exercise. Before I moved to WI for work and changed CF drs, my former CF dr allowed me to use exercise as my CPT - I guess I controlled my CF care. However, my pulmonologist wants me to do both the vest/acapella AND exercise. Somehow, I don't seem to find ENOUGH time in my day to do so.

I have been fairly good.. I do about 4-6 times per week, sometimes 7 days a week depending on what's going on. It helps so much to have a friend. When I'm visiting family, my mom and I are so good at doing 2.5 mile loop in the neighborhood. One of my nursing friends loves just randomly walking for an hour or so, usually is 3-4 miles. On my own, I sometimes have to force myself to get outside -- once I'm walking over 10 minutes, I am able to do a long workout...

I work full time (consisting of both school hours and work hours) and have a FEV1 in the 60's. Usually after a 12 hour shift, I am pooped and want to sit and eat snacks on the couch with the tv on... hehe :)

Good luck!

If I don't have a friend who can exercise with me, I listen to recorded books on an MP3 player while I'm doing my walk around the neighborhood. I have a subscription to audible.com and I download the books from there. They are great while I'm doing nebs as well.
