i don't really know much about exercising, like what's considered cardio and stuff like that. i was always active when i was younger, but the past few years, i've gotten really lazy. i set at a desk all day, then i come home and sit on the couch the rest of the day. anyways, i want to start exercising to see if that improves my pfts. so, which exercises are good for your lungs. i was going to curves for a about 3 months last year and that improved my PFTs a little, but i can't find time to go, so I want to start working out at home. i'm thinking of getting a treadmill and maybe someting else. i just want some input. thanks

Swimming and running are best according to my doctor. She had me get a treadmill recently. The great thing about having your own treadmill is you can exercise quickly and have more time to do other things. Strength training like you were doing is also important.

I walk on my treadmill for exercise ( its great for the lungs). I have been thinking of joining a gym, but have been dragging my feet on that so far.

I've heard lately from my RT and my doc that upper-body exercise is great for the lungs. My RT gave me a whole upper-body workout which isn't really different from what anyone doing weight training would do. Apparently if you strengthen your core muscles and the muscles in your chest, you also strengthen your lungs. <br>

My doc also liked the fact that I do a boxing workout when I can. That workout mostly involves shadow-boxing and punching a heavy bag. My doc said he thinks that is better for me than the treadmill. I still like going on the treadmill too, but I've been concentrating on weight training and the boxing workout lately.
