Hi,
I have a full time job that Ive had for 3 months that requires me to be on my feet CONSTANTLY. Now though, Im kind of having second thoughts, because I also have a 8 month child that I have to take care of AFTER work. I have NO time for myself. My question is, What do some of you do as work and do you have the same problem as me. What are some of your suggestions? I dont want to quit cause I love what I do, but Im just sooo exhausted!

I had to stop working 1/2000. I worked in Admissions at our local hospital. I wasnt on my feet all day, but it was stressful because there were many deadlines in my position. I worked there 12 years. Out of those 12 years 1 1/2 of them were after I had my daughter. At the time I stopped, my husband was working 2 hours away from home & with his schedule, I was like a single Mom. It just got to be too much & took a real toll on my health. I loved my job. I was good at it & miss it terribly. I just had to acknowledge that there wasnt enough of me to balance a life as an employee, wife, mother & care for myself properly. I originally felt like a failure because I couldnt balance it all then my Cf doctor pointed out that I was just shifting my priorities. My former employer could always find someone to fill my spot, my husband could get another wife (although none like me because I am literally one of a kind), but my daughter could never get another Mom. Yes she could have a stepmom etc, but we all know for those who have relationships with our Moms that its not the same. For me stress & over exertion does as much damage as an actual infection. Exhaustion in a bad way can really hurt you. Exhaustion in a good way such as day of swimming can be beneficial. Its a tough call & only you know what to do. The first question I have is....are you sure the exhaustion is not related to an infection brewing or your health in general instead of the job? If it is the job...are you able to take frequent, but short breaks to give yourself a chance to rest. What do you wear on your feet? If need be you have the Disability Act in your favor because employers are required to make "'REASONABLE" accomidations for employees to be able to fulfill their tasks. Good Luck!

i was doing some volunteer work at penn hospital and it required me to be on my feet at all times, running from floor to floor and going back and forth to patients rooms to refill their water and ask them if they needed anything, by the time my shift was over i would curse the hospital ungodly just at the thought that i wasn't getting paid for any of the stuff i was doing. but then again its always a good feeling knowing you helped someone out

I am the original poster. I wanted to answer a few questions. Yes I do take frequent breaks, and everyone knows I have CF but Im not the type to make a big deal out of anything, even if I feel I cant handle something or if something is unfair. I dont know, maybe its the weather, cause somedays I feel fine. Im going to try different things like taking lots of fluids and carrying them with me all the time. And, arranging a time to relax after work everyday. If this doesnt work out for me though, Im afraid Im going to have to find an easier job

When I worked and even now, I didnt want to be "different" so I made sure my CF didnt interfere with whatever I had to do. I use to get so irritated with co workers who would call out sick because of a runny noise or something small. I guess in a way I was playing the "Martyr" although in the long run it hurt me.
