Explaining a g-tube to a 2 year old

Oh, I'm sorry. But, I know it will work out.

As for a doll...I dont' have any insight into where to get one, but I"ll lay down money that Alyssa creates tubes for her baby dolls after she gets hers. Not at all what you are looking for, I know, but, I think she'll use her own things to process what is going on with her. All of our Care Bears and dollies have, at one point or another, been put down for a nap or to bed with a tube on their tummies (shoe strings, Tinker toys, actual tubing extensions...). It's just what my girls do, now.

Yes, she'll be able to do her vest. We did manual for a few days, until the site wasn't so tender. Vicki had sent me Garran's vest that they modified so that it buckled in the back, and it was cut out around the tube in the front. We used that for a bit, too, until I called Hill-Rom to see what they reccommended. They sent us pair of foam sponges to use. We cut a circle in the middle of the sponge and put it around the tube/button. It worked great. Eventually Emily got annoyed by having it in there, and would pull it out, so we just stopped using it.

I still have Garran's old vest if you want to give it a try. (Sorry, Vik - I never got around to sending it back<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-blush.gif" border="0">)

I'll be thinking of you. I know how much you wanted to avoid this. The next few weeks are going to be rough, but then it will settle down. Please don't hesitate to call if you need anything.

Kids are funny, they don't have the same anxieties that we do. I wouldn't be too worried about what your daughter thinks about the button, especially at such a young age. Try not to make a big deal about it and likely she won't either. Like everyone said, just tell her when she asks that she will get extra milk through it when she sleeps and it will help her get to be a big girl. My daughter was five when she got hers. The button has never been an issue for her and it doesn't get in her way.

I know you want to cancel it now, but I bet six months after she gets it you will be so grateful for it. You will probably wonder like I did why you were so anxious about it to begin with. It is kind of like the vest, you just do it and move on with your day. I think about the fact my daughter has a button for about 5 minutes a day while I am getting her feeding ready at night. Other than that, it is like she doesn't have it. But now my daughter looks like a different child. She was at -5% bmi when she got her button and now she is at 75% bmi. A 20 pound weight gain in 18 months. She is just chubby and so healthy looking now after looking so pale and way too thin for too many years.

It took my daughter a few weeks before she was ready to do the vest. We did cpt on her during those weeks. But she also had the nissan fundoplication surgery, so that is why she didn't want to do the vest.
