Shavronica, I LOVE LOVE LOVE milk too! I go through a half a gallon a day at least. I don't drink any soda, but I drinks tons of chocolate milk and water, plus tea and juice. I like steak, lasagna, fettucine alfredo, ravioli, chicken, bacon, cereal, cheese and more..

This is kind of off topic, but I'm curious if you all have sort of "mastered" how many enzymes to take at a meal. I noticed that Coll said how he likes fettuncine alfredo. This is one greasy meal! So, how many extra enzymes would you take then? I feel like I get it right most times with my son, but sometimes, I'm way off and we end up dealing with gas/grease/etc. (He's 4 by the way).

Pssttt-- Coll is a girl, short for Colleen.
I haven't taken enzymes in years (I really should... don't ask me about this, hah), but when I did, I knew pretty well what I was doing. I imagine it's harder as the CFer mother to decide what's right, because you're not in his stomach and intestines. As you grow older, and you can feel what's going on, it's easier to figure out what works. I used to take 5 with meals, unless there was an excessive amount of grease or butter, then I'd add one or two accordingly. I usually took none with snacks unless my snack was something like bread and butter, or french fries, then I'd take a few. So as your son gets older, he'll be able to figure some of this out for himself. But I bet you're doing a damn good job. Even if you think you have it right, it's not going to work 100% of the time, no matter how careful you are.

Indeed I am a girl (Maybe it's unclear from my posts, but I'd be a hugely feminine boy if I was one). It seems to be confusing to a lot of people, so no offense taken. Figuring out what enzymes to take is a balancing act. I tend to take more with fatty meals (although not with fettucine alfredo)-- hot dogs, chicken nuggets, pizza, Chinese food (I don't really like chinese, but..), fried foods... I usually take 3 'zymers', so with those meals I take four. As your son gets older, he'll probably learn what foods are problems for him, and so will you, seeing what he has eaten on days he sits on the potty for a half hour with an achey stomach. Good luck

carey,

give what is prescribed at least with every meal. If you notice oily movements or excessive going give an extra pill. If he always has these symptoms than he needs increased all the time. Me for example I at least take 5 Ultrase MT20 with every meal, I take an extra one on high fat or greasy meals.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the input. Coll.....soooo sorry about the confusion!!! I think I read your name as "Cole" and just automatically assumed boy! Thanks for your tips everyone. Wow, Emily, I'm amazed you don't take enzymes? Ever get tummy aches? I always give my son at least what he is prescribed and then add if I need to. But, there are foods that affect him differently too.....hard to tell on occasion.

Yeah I get stomach aches, and diarrhea and all that fun business. I really should be taking the enzymes. Just haven't gotten back into the swing of it.

Emily if you dont mind me asking, how is your weight gain? Even though you are not taking enzymes are you still gaining weight?

I don't mind at all. Not taking the enzymes is actually because of weight gain. Several years ago, on birth control and anti-depressants, I gained 50 lbs in less than a year. I lost 40 of it, but since then, it doesn't take much effort to put on weight. I actually have to watch what I eat. I stopped taking the enzymes during this period, because when I was purposely trying to lose the excess weight, I was eating almost no fat or grease. So when I took my enzymes, I just got backed up. I eat some fat and stuff now, but still watch what I eat, so I just never got back into the habit of taking them. And I do have GI symptoms, but I'm not underweight. At 5'2" I weigh about 130 lbs.

I know that different ppl require different amounts of enzymes ( I can get away with skipping occaisionly) but I wouldnt be able to stick the annoying side effects of not taking them. Some ppl are really good about taking them, Im not great, but like i said I dont know if I would be able to do my feeed and not take them.
