totally interesting post, loulou. i have major stomach problems and that was informative! haaa! in all seriousness, i do hope your stomach issues at least improve because, boy, do they suck. oh, i did try colonics at one point (i was ridiculously backed up and bloated) and i only did one tx but it didn't move anything...this was my experience anyway.

Lifeway kiefer helps me quite a bit. It is a fat though so you may want to take that into consideration. I also take two pro-biotic pills per day in addition to one 8oz glass of regular kiefer per day.

Perhaps this home remedy may help you?

Hi LouLou:

Disclaimer: the following is not medical advice. It's discussion regarding health information that is available on the internet.:)

Your gut flora may indeed be altered by your antibiotic use. There is a home remedy for this, and you seem like the plucky kind of lady who could accomplish it. It is called fecal transfer. You replace your gut bacteria with a population from a healthy person. It is essential that your donor is very healthy.

Try this video for more information:

and also see http://thepowerofpoop.com/.

If you do this... let us know how it goes :) . There is some very good science behind this, and we ALL give a sh*t about health! That's why we are here on this bulletin board...

My very best to you!

I have extreme cravings for sugar and my crotch is on fire and extremely itchy. I take a diflucan pill to fix the yeast infection and it just comes right back a week or two later. My bowels aren't the same after my course of abx this summer. My poop is at best like soft serve. No more nicely formed firm stools. A while back I read on here a journal article about how cf gut flora is never the same after our intense use of abx. Just seems like it would be nice to try to fix it. I feel like probiotics can only do so much.

The cleanse idea probably would be helpful. I was looking into a colonic a couple of months ago. This idea for a fecal transplant popped into my head today after a graphic dream last night involving my 30 mL bolus syringes I get for Merrem and my dh's poop :-0

Thank you Cardinal!

I'm actually in a much better place than I was 4 years ago when I posted this thread. Much of my health success has been based on nutritional changes. 2008-2012 I was blasted with IV antibiotics often. In 2012 I started a supplement of aloe vera and 9 sea weeds that really turned around my health. I should mention that I started the sup after 1.5 years on Kalydeco. While I saw benefits from Kalydeco I was still getting ill (likely because my gut flora was ruined). I have only had to do IV antibiotics once each year since then. The IVs are deemed necessary bc my lung bacteria is still quite resistant. I am currently on antibiotic IVs right now so your timing was impeccable. I want to to get back to where I was health wise prior to this antibiotic course as quickly as possible so may consider this! I made an appointment to see a naturopath and I saw on the site that a naturopath can run the tests to screen the donor. Prior to watching the video and looking at the website you linked to I was not aware that a fecal transplant in enema form would provide much value. I thought it had to go through the mouth. Is there a methodology of home based capsulation as I would want my upper tract to get the good bacteria too? Or is it all connected enough that it is not necessary to take orally? Friend me on Facebook - Lauren Sandham Brenneman.

Hi LouLou - I sent you a friend request on FB! My guess is that the enema would be enough, since the areas are indeed connected. People claim miraculous cures from enema home DIY fecal transplant. We really need to do more research however... because if we could find the STRAINS needed we could make a probiotic that's just the purified bacteria. Most people do NOT like the idea of handling feces, let alone swallowing feces, even if it encapsulated. I do not know how to do this encapsulation at home... supposedly the capsules were lined with a cocoa butter that is insoluble at room temperature, so it has to get to your gut to melt.

I think my one of my cats has a microbiome issue as well. He has creamy poo. Considering asking the vet for a fecal transplant by my other kitty with well-formed poo. They eat the exact same food out of the same feeder. I could consider doing it myself but would have to ask the vet for some drugs to knock him out as I doubt he'd do an enema for me otherwise, even though he's a good kitty :) .
