Hey y'all! Ok, today is the start of my daughter's 3-day fecal collection for fat analysis. I have kind of a gross question I hadn't thought of....what do I do with the containers of poop over the next couple of days? My sis is a nurse and said put them in the freezer, but would that mess up the contents for the analysis? What were you guys told to do? I tried to Google...but am coming up empty!
Thanks!!

I'm not 100% sure, but that does sound correct - I spoke with a mother about a month ago who made reference to having poo frozen until the next appointment date.

You might want to try posting in Families as well - it (and Adults) get far more traffic than the newly diagnosed boards.

Seems like there has to be a doctor on call who could tell you for sure.

We kept ours in the freezer and then dropped it off at the lab as soon as the collection timeline was over. UGH I hated having it in my freezer. I actually wrapped the outside of the container in silver foil to keep it from bothering me. Yeah, I'm mental. LOL!! But in answer to your question, we got a form that explained the 72 hour test and said to keep the bucket in the freezer. Bleh. I don't envy you -- its just not a fun test.

We just got done w/ a fecal fat test for my 3 year old daughter this past Friday and we had to put ours in the freezer. It doesn't smell once it's frozen & we put ours in a collection cup (which didn't always hold the contents - had to wrap it in another container) and then in a biohazard bag. Since we have 3 freezers, we would put ours in the freezer in the basement. Then we dropped them all off at the lab at the end of the test.

Good luck!
