Feeding Question

I am just curious as to how much your kids eat in a typical day. My son is 11 months old and is eating 8 jars of baby food a day (with a scoop of powdered formula in each) along with at least 6 8-ounce bottles of infant formula. It seems like all that he does is eat... I know my daughter never ate this much. He is around the 50th percentile for weight... Is this typical for CF patients?

Thanks

Is he only eating jarred babyfood? My son (2w/out CF) was barely eating any jarred babyfood by 11 months, he ate whatever we ate, just cut up in small bites. He eats ALOT and has always been that way (unlike my daughter who is 5wcf) but I know he would not have ever drink 48 ounces of anything in one day. If Joshua isn't already eating table food, that might help keep him full longer. Otherwise it could mean that he needs more enzymes, which it very possible if he is really drinking 48 ounces of formula - that is a LOT of formula!

Hope this helps!

Not my kids. My daughter has never had much of an appetite. My son has an average appetite and his bmi has been steady around 60%. I think kids sometimes are just different. Talk to your dietican/dr about his stools and the amount of enzymes he is on. There is a chance he needs more enzymes and his appetite will decrease.

When DS was 6 months old, his doctor told us to skip baby food and grind up whatever we were eating. Babyfood is low in fat and sodium. So at daycare he got ground up tuna casserole, stew, fish sticks.... At home we tried to do the same, but a lot of times for convenience sake, I'd add some butter or olive oil and salt to some of his baby foods, gave him a lot of whole milk yogurt. I seem to recall he liked bean with bacon and brocolli cheese soup, tomato based pasta dishes, stew, chicken ala king... He did have some texture issues and didn't like ground meat (hamburger) or toast... He'd gag like he had a hairball.
