Feeding Tube Qestion

I'm posting this for my sister who had a feeding tube placed at the end of December. Since she's had it done she's been doing manual percussion. But recently has been trying her Vest back on. Yesterday her site was sore and oozing a little bit. Also feedings haven't been going in smoothly. Her machine keeps saying there's a block in the tube. But it flushes fine. Could this be complications from doing the vest? Do any of you with feeding tubes use a Vest for airway clearance. If so how long do you do it and on what frequency?
Any tips for her regarding keeping this thing happy?? =)

i do manual cpt for various reasons, so i can't comment on the vest part of this... but when my feeding pump tells me there is a block in the tube i find it is one of these things happening:

1. the tube is kinked somewhere
2. my mickey extension is blocked/clogged
3. i have a faulty bag (this frustrates me to no end, i just got a box full of defective ones and have to keep emptying one bag out into a new one)
4. my pump batteries need to be recharged

i've never had an issue with it being the g-tube itself, and as long as the stoma/site have healed up, i shouldn't think that the vest has done any harm.

EDITED: ooh i remembered another one... the pumps they have in my hospital are older than the one i use at home, and require the bag of formula to be held above the pump (like a drip IV). If the bag is too heavy or not high enough above the pump, it beeps that the line is blocked. if your sister hangs her feed above the pump, that might be the culprit.

I saw your waiting for a transplant, so is my sister. She's been waiting for 2 months now. She's a small girl so her dr.'s are saying thats being the culprit. We've had 3 offers for lungs now but there all too big!! Talk about frustrating!! I hope your call comes soon.

usually when my daughters pump says that her tube is "blocked", just like mentioned above, there is a kink in the line. the vest company gave me a "thick-styrofoamish" thing that i could cut a hole in for my daughters tube and put it around the tube to protect from the vest if it started to hurt her (i dont know if that made any sense,lol). but she has never complained of any pain or cried during cpt. i would check with the vest company, they may have something that can go around the tube to keep the vest from hitting it directly. good luck.
