fEEDING TUBE REPLACED

YESTERDAY I HAD A ENDOSCOPY DONE TO REPLACE MY FEEDING TUBE. MY LAST ONE WAS IN FOR OVER 10 YEARS AND I HAD SEVERAL PROBLEMS BECAUSE OF THAT. SO THEY REPLACED IT WITH THIS HUGE LONG TUBE, MY LAST ONE WAS A BUTTON. I AM TOO ACTIVE TO HAVE THIS FOOT LONG ROPE IN MY STOMACH. I AM PISSED OFF BECAUSE HE TOLD ME IT WAS SHORT AND WOULD NOT BE A ISSUE, BULL. sO DOES ANYONE HAVE A BUTTON FEEDING TUBE...HE SAYS THEY ARE NOT USING THEM ANYMORE BECAUSE THEY CAUSE TOO MANY INFECTIONS WHEN THEY ARE SO SHORT....MY ONLY OPION I THINK IS FOR ME TO CUT IT SHORTER.

Oh that's awful!!! My boys both have the Bard button style (like a beach ball snap). Josh had it replaced once. We met with the surgeon to insist he replace it with the same style. He urged us to choose the MIC-KEY button which is used more often, but we insisted it remain the same style. We even made him get one of each to show us and then pointed out the difference.

He told us that if he encountered any problem putting the Bard one in, he'd have to use the MIC-KEY. Good thing he didn't.

The tube that you have will only be in place for a few weeks (4-6 ?) before they put the button on. The tube helps the hole heal first. The idea of that really freaked out my kids (and us), so I understand how you must be feeling.

I know that several others here have had similar tubes before their buttons. Maybe they can send some advice.

Is that doctor on this earth or what? Malora had that long tube for 6 weeks until the hole was healed. Now she has a MIC-KEY. She had a G MIC-KEy and then a JC MIC-KEY. But her body went nuts with that in and we went back to the G MIC-KEY. She does'nt have a problem with it at all. Checks the water herself in the ballon and changes it out her self every three months. She thinks everybody should be born with one<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> Easy to put bad tasting things in.
Jane and I both use the same hospital in Boston.
