I had a g/j tube revomed last year due to a major infection.. I asked the same thing, how does it heal? the tract heals on it on in 24-48 hours as well as the hole, you just have to keep it covered with gauze for a few days changing it daily to check for drainage and blood. I just had another g tube out in aug 17, 04 and the only pain it causes me in internally directly undernearth the tube site, but it all due to the muscles being moved around from the surgery and getting used to the tube being in there. It will evenutally heal. I also get some drainage on my dressing every day but nothing severe.. just make sure you change the dressing on it every day to prevent infection.

I have my feeding tube in my nose.
I put it in before I go to sleep and take it out in the morning.
I really didn´t want to have a hole in my stomache.
The first time I put it in (at the hospital) I threw up on myself but the next time, at home the same night, I had no problem at all.

Hello, This is not really a "reply" but a question. I have a 5 year old grandson w/CF and all the doctor and dietician can talk about is g-tube. Can you describe some of the pro and con issues on your 3 year old. Do you see significant changes after g-tube implant?

I am a 20 y/o cfer with a bard i have had alot or acidis build up with mine and it has always been a lil red no matter what i do. the best thing i've found is to keep it "tacked" with some silk tape. I think it keep's a better seal on it and the air getting to it lets the mucusy/acidic build up dry out. When it'd dry it seems to just kind of flake of and not burn so much. From my experince never cover it completly or the acic will stay moist and burn more than ever. Hope this helps a lil

Have you all seen a doctor?? You might want to go to the doctor that put the tube in, or to a doctor that specialize in that kind of stuff. You never know, it might be infection etc.. My mom had her tube removed after having so much pain.

Well since im at the end of this post you might not read what i have to say but i have a gtube and i was having problems too. If your skin is raw from the acid you need to cut down on things with acid such as apple juice, coke, coffee....you should try drinking ginerale for a while. Also you should be cleaning the skin twice a day with antibacterial soap and warm water and then rinse well so no soap is left. You need to let it air out for atleast 1 hour a day whether you lay on ur bed and watch tv just keep ur top up so the area can get some air. You should also go see a doctor and ask for a cream with a steriod in it to stop the redness. Continue taking antacids because that will help too. That's all i can really say for now and good luck.
