Feeling Stressed

I am a nurse, too. I was a nurse for 9 years before having Maggie, took 4 years off and recently went back per diem. soemtimes it's an advantage to being a nurse, doctors don't intimidate me, I know how to take care of IV's, PICC lines etc. But I'm still a mom, I worry like everyone else. The docs still talk fast and I forget stuff, I feel overwhelmed like everyone else and also know what can happen when things go wrong, so my imagination can get the best of me. I thought going back to nursing would burn me out, ya know how much caregiving can one person do? But actually, I enjoy it so far and seem to have a different perspective on things than before.

I worry, too. Around the holidays, the norovirus (vomit/runs) was going around the area. But max was the only one amongst his preschool classmates who didn't get it. DH has had a couple of colds this winter. My MIL showed up claiming a cold, yet obviously had a bronchial infection. Around the holidays I had a head cold/sinus thing, then DH got sickly, then I got bronchitis followed by another sinus infection, all the while worrying that Max was going to get sick. And Max just doesn't understand keeping his distance -- covers everyone with kisses, drinks out of glasses that are sitting around, shares his food...

The whole time I had bronchitis I was worried sick, would never forgive myself if he got it. Last spring he got a head cold and it turned into a nasty, upper respiratory infection. So in the back of my mind, any little sniffle, cough is going to turn in to something horribly worse. It's hard not to get carried away, worried sick, with worry and the "what ifs".

Hopefully your kiddos feel better.

I know what the rest of you Mom's are feelin'! I have a 9 year old boy w cf and 12 year old daughter w/o cf. So far this winter they have been very healthy. Of course I hate to brag - that can back fire. But even when they are healthy you wonder if the bomb is going to drop sometime. The other day during supper Tanner told us about a kid younger than him barfing in the lunch line. YUCK lost our appetite - but alot of that going around. Immediately my husband and I are saying - you stay away from anyone sick and make sure you wash your hands alot. It would make him mad to get sick now and miss basketball!! We have really been blessed so far.
