I've been experiencing pain on the right side of my lower abdomen since yesterday. I've had this happen quite a few times before, but it hurts a lot more this time. It's like sharp pain and hurts worse when I stand up and walk. I thought it might be ovulation pain because I am mid cycle, but would it hurt this bad?

Sara,

I don't have CF, but I do get a lot of ovulation pain. Some months are worse than others. I've always had issues...cysts and endometriosis...so they are thinking it's caused by one of these.

Not sure if that was any help whatsoever...but...just wanted to let you know that it's not totally unheard of.

I have experience ovulation pain mid cycle but it doesn't hurt that bad - you might be experiencing the pain of a cyst. They are pretty easy for a doctor to check out with an ultrasound - alot of the time the easiest fix is birth control.

I get a lot of ovulation pain as well. Everytime I get my period, or rather just before I get my period, I experience pain on both sides of my lower abdomen. I would suggest putting a hot water bottle or heating pad on your stomach when you have these pains. Or one of those hot patches you can get from a pharmacy.

From my own experience, it's most likely a cyst, either on your ovaries or on your uterus.
Last year I had my uterus removed because I had a cyst that caused uncontrollable bleeding and I was HIGHLY anemic (had 3 iron infutions - they assumed it was CF related at first). The cyst was in a place that it alone couldn't be removed, so the entire uterus was taken. We left the ovaries, since I was having no trouble with those and we didn't want to cause more troubles than I already had to deal with, having CF (and not having to deal with the hormones issue.)

Since, I've had cysts on my ovaries. As explained to me, they will show up every cycle, and usually switch sides each month. I had one rupture and it caused so much pain that I had to go to emergency (I was vomiting from the pain). They gave me a shot of morphine.

It's something you should have your ob/gyn keep and eye on. Mine told me that if it happens too often, then they will operate, but as long as it's tolerable, they leave it alone.

I have sharp pains from time to time each month (that's when they are rupturing), but nothing like that one time.

Also, my ob/gyn said that she's experience that CF women have trouble earlier than non-CF (early menopause, and other female problems). And from my experience, I found it to be true.

Anyway, you'll need to get an ultrasound and a pelvic exam during your period - that will tell them the size of your cyst and determine the severity.

Good luck, keep us posted!

I agree that it sounds like an ovarian cyst. I have them once and awhile on my left ovary. Doctors usually put me on the pill to dissolve them. My first cyst came when I was 13 years old. They put me on the off the pill for 3 years until they ended up leaving me on it. I couldn't walk or stand right either. Usually, I also have a lot of discomfort with sex and going to the bathroom too. Now, I've been off the pill for 1.5 years after nearly 10 years on. I still get the cyst now and then put thankfully it goes away on its own. You would need an ultrasound an possibly a GYN exam to determine if you have one. The only treatments that I know of for a cyst are: 1. Let it run its course until it dissolves. 2. Go on the pill (but if you stop it will probably come back). 3. Surgery if to large to dissolve on its own or if it could be a real problem depending its location. It could be ovulation pain. I'm not saying that it isn't. With me, I had pain on and off. It never mattered what time in my cycle I was. Use warm compresses and if you need something for the pain take Motrin. I was advised by my GYN doctor that Motrin relieves cramps/pain better then Advil and Tyenol combined. She also told me to take it everyday for three days before my period. It really takes care on the pain and makes me much less miserable.

I never had ovulation pain to hurt bad. When I get a mild cramp, I can tell if I am ovulating and I also see a discharge on one day. That is usually five days before my period.

I would go to the doctor. It could be your bowels.
