Female with CF

So, I know a male can be tested to see if he is in fact infertile. As a female with CF, how do you know if you can't get pregnant via natural methods or if you just haven't gotten pregnant yet!? Is there a scientific way?

The only way to quickly tell if you might be infertile is to see if your fallopian tubes are blocked with mucus. They can do that sometimes with an ultrasound or laparoscopically.
The way most people find out if they are in fact unable to get pregnant though is ttc-ing and not getting pregnant. Most doctors won't go through fertility testing until you've been ttcing for a year, or sometimes for 6 months.
Even if they do find heavy mucus or blockages, it doesn't mean its impossible to get pregnant. Meaning, you shouldn't rely on that as birth control.
If getting pregnant is your aim, and there are blockages, there are minimally invasive procedures you can do to remove blockages. And of course sometimes IUI is needed to help move things along.

I would also say that it is just trial and error (and def don't count on NOT being able to conceive). I always thought the issue was more one of cervical mucus, so thanks for the extra info mamascarlett! My husband and I are on month #3 of TTC and hoping for the best! My OB said they initiate a preliminary fertility work-up at the 6 mos mark.

I work in the infertility field - and the best advice I can give you is when you do want to have those tests, go to a reproductive endocrinologist (a fertility doctor) and NOT your OB/GYN! So many of our patients waste too much time at their OB/GYN not getting proper testing/treatments. Best of luck!

I have had tests done on my fertility problems and they did this test where they shot up some of this liquid through my fallopian tubes and the test result came back as not blocked and flowing nicely...yet I still haven't been able to become pregnant and I think it's a cervical mucus issues for me too. I'm going to try mucinex as it's just come into our country and it bets using the robitussin cough mix! lol Hopefully that will work! Otherwise I will go with IUI.

Also a brief bit of history for other who don;t know me...been married for 5 years and ever since then haven't been able to conceive...hoping these things i've mentioned work...thought I'm worried about my age...as I just turned 30 and that is considered by my fertility specialist as an 'older women'...so i hope it isn't too late for us to have the child we so desperately have wanted for SUCH a very LONG TIME!

Any other advice for ttc..?

HAHA 30 is NOT considered "old" by ANY real fertility experts. <35 is the best age group to be in (which you obviously are). Don't let that number get you down yet! If you think it is a cervical mucus problem, an IUI will probably do the trick, as long as you are ovulating properly.
