FEV1 with or without albuterol

I was initially told a 15% difference indicates asthma, and I did not make that cut--usually got a difference of less than 5%.

Then when I went to National Jewish in Denver, I was off symbicort for a week and my difference was bigger. And when they did a methacholine challenge test--PFTs over and over with increased inhalation of an irritant--definitive asthma dx.

I think if someone hasn't recently been exposed to a trigger or is not getting over an inflammation causing virus (me now--clear mucus and tightness outta control) or takes a long-acting med like advair or symbicort, the difference pre and post albuterol in the controlled environment of the drs' office can be a false neg.

Mine typically improves 7-10% with albuterol, sometimes even more. I have recently started Tilade (Nedocromil Sodium) which is typically used to treat asthma but not CF as far as I know and my FEV1 has improved from 35% to 59% in just a matter of weeks. It is nothing less than a miracle in my eyes. There is obviously a significant asthma component and I am elated to be feeling so great since starting to treat the asthma.

I typically have about a 15-20% increase when I compare with and without Albuterol. I have a major Asthma component with my CF! If I could choose one drug that I feel is the most beneficial for me personally, it is my Albuterol treatments daily.<img title="Laughing" src="include/wysiwyg/tinymce/jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/img/smiley-laughing.gif" alt="Laughing" border="0" />
