I am sorry if I offend anyone by posting this in the adult section!!! I did also post it in the pregnancy section, but this is CF-related too. It may benefit other CF women if I share my experiences here. Again, sorry to offend anyone!!!

Many of you know on this site that my husband and I have been trying to conceive for the past 1.5 years with no luck. I have tried Robitussin, Mucinex, charting, ovulation kits, and everything...Everything points to I should not be having a problem. Well, it looks like the reason for not conceiving is my cervical mucus.

For the past few months, I noticed that I had a greenish-tinted cervical discharge around ovulation. I just thought it was the CF and didn't make much out of it. I had no others problems. Well, I finally decided to get it checked out two weeks ago...

I mentioned the symptoms or rather lack of. I told her basically that the main reason that I was there was because of the green-tinted discharge. I told her that I had no odor, no itching or burning of any kind.

Well, she thought either a yeast infection or bacterial infection. So I ended up getting a PAP. What fun... She said that the results would be in in a week or so.

Well early last Friday morning, the phone rang...The results for the possible yeast infection came back NEGATIVE. However, the results for the bacterial infection were not in yet. The nurse said the results for that may take another week. She said bacterial tests take longer....

Well, today I got back the bacterial culture results. The bacterial cultures for my greenish strecked/tinted mucus came back NEGATIVE as did the yeast cultures! The doctors are conviced that it is the CF that is causing the problem with conceiving. This is what I thought but was too afraid to really find out for the past few months... I DID NOT have any other problems, such as itching, burning, or anything else.

Honestly, I'm stumped, disappointed, sad, and ... I actually was kind of hoping they would have found something wrong. It would have been easily fixed unlike CF. I don't know what to think...

Here I am with MILD CF, FEV1 68%, NO DIABETES, VERY REGULAR CYCLES, AND ALL. I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!!! I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD BE IN THIS BOAT. I'VE WATCHED SO MANY GET PREGNANT AND DELIVER AND EVEN GET PREGNANT AGAIN, BRITNEY SPEARS. STILL HERE I AM... I'M OVERWHELMED!!! PLUS, I JUST GOT MY PERIOD TODAY SO I'M EXTRA EMOTIONAL... I JUST WANT TO CRY!!! I'M JUST SO ....

I'm sorry........ i dont know what else to say. I know it feels like your world of dreams is crumbling down because of this, but it isnt. I understand how frustrating it must be for you and i hope you can find a way to have peace with whats going on. If it makes you feel any better my parents tried for 9 years before they had my brother ( no cf ). They gave up and started the adoption process and next thing you know my mom was pregnant. Dont give up ....all is not lost <img src="i/expressions/heart.gif" border="0">

I am sorry Sweetie. Forgive me for asking if this has been addressed, but are you sure everything with your husband is ok? Just a thought before you beat yourself up. I wish there were easy answers for you!

I know you are not happy with the news but on the bright side at least your system is healthy! Did she say she wants to do any further testing regarding the green appearance of the discharge. Or any other tests on you regarding your inability to get pregnant in general? Can she link the green-tinge to anything specifically with cf because as we've all stated before no one has ever heard of this as a classic cf cervical mucus trait. Ask her to research it. If she's so sure it cf she should write an journal article about you and get this information published. So on to more testing - what will you do next? A referrel to an infertility doc seems like a logical next step and can proceed with getting to the bottom of Melissa's inquiry.

Yes, my husband was tested and deemed VERY FERTILE...

We had discussed the possibility of him getting tested not too long ago, and to my surprise, he was tested a couple of years ago. Let me explain...

He is from Uruguay, S.A. When he was 16-years-old, he was drafted to join the Uruguay military. The military there makes them get a full physical upon entry, which includes a sperm analysis. He passed with flying colors.

I did share this information with the GYN doctor, and she didn't really urge about retesting him based on that information. He has/is offering to get retested without a hitch, but I'm not sure that I really want to pursue that path... We both agreed to turn to adoption before infertility doctors. The only reason I got tested for the bacterial infection was because I wanted to make sure that nothing was "wrong". And yes, infertility had a part in it, but it wasn't like this was for infertility only.

I still am thinking of taking a few months to put my thoughts together and then push forward with something... Jake just got a HUGE job promotion on Monday, and his parents will be visiting in a few months from Uruguay. After that, I intend to push forward... In the meantime, I do intend to increase my intake of water since I surely don't drink enough and increase my dose of Mucinex. If it works, great, but I won't count on it. I'm going to just try and relax about everything and wait out a few months... I guess it's a plan of some sort.
