Well they finally confirmed what we already knew in our hearts. My daughter who is 29 wks pregnant with a baby girl who has CF. I can tell you that she has twin girls n/cf who are 4 and a stepdaughter who is going to be 4 next mo. Now i am very concerned about germs and everything now. Our family is very close and all of the grandkids are 4 and under. What precautions do we need to do with everyone when she is born. We have already stressed handwashing but what else???? My daughter is meeting with the head of the CF clinic in our area on the 25th. I know that we can't think of everything to ask. Any suggestions would be helpful. Do we do anything different when she comes home. She may have to have surgery for her bowel. Help.

Sorry to hear about the diagnosis, but at least you know and are able to proactively treat her.

As far as precautions... I would suggest getting bottles of hand sanitizer. Whenever someone wants to hold my baby girl, I hand them a bottle of sanitizer before they can hold her. Water isn't always readily available so I find this a much easier way to verify that people are being safe.

Other than that, just the normal things such as avoiding people with colds, etc. It is not necessary to do much else except love her. <img src="i/expressions/heart.gif" border="0">

As a mother of 4 and only 1 with CF, I would encourage you all to treat her the same as you do the other kiddos. Don't let the CF define who she is at all, it is part of her life, has to be dealt with, treatments must be done, but it is not who she is.

I agree with lots of bottles of hand sanitizer and making sure everyone is washing their hands before holding or touching her.

I would also advise avoiding taking her to the grocery store and drug stores, a lot of sick people hang out there to pick up meds and such.

Besides avoiding the places mentioned above, whenever you have to be where sick people are (doctors offices) request to not sit in the waiting room with the sick people. Our Primary care office, the Night Time office, and the Emergency Room here have never turned us down when we tell them Marissa has CF.

We have masks that we wear if we have to cross a room with Marissa in it when we are sick (to go to the bathroom, etc.). Otherwise even the people in our house seclude themselves to their rooms for the contagious duration of their illness.

Bleach the bathroom and kitchen often. If you have any mold problems now would definitely be the time to fix them.

Good Luck!
