All the above and no smoking in and around the home, even by visitors. If you know of any potential visitors who smoke, encourage them not to smoke prior to their visit by at least an hour, smoke clings to clothing,
other than that, precautions are the same with any newborn baby.
And goodluck.

Our rules were similar to those above -- want to hold the baby -- wash hands. I did take him shopping -- he was limited to his carseat carrier when I went to the grocery store or target. The only time I was extremely nervous about taking him shopping was his first Xmas -- the flu season started very very early and he couldn't get his first flu shot until December -- so I didn't take him to the mall to see Santa.

When the baby gets home - normal baby stuff, but probably giving enzyme beads prior to feeding. Medications in oral syringes. I kept a notebook in the kitchen to keep track of the different medications he was on, the clinic still wanted us to keep track of how much he was eating, so I had a list of when he at and how much...

Wow 8 granddaughters all 4 and under! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0"> I bet that's just too cute when they all get together.

Well, I know that you won't really know what your new grandbaby needs until she is born, but you are smart to get prepared early. I hope that if she does need the bowel surgery, that it goes well, and she recovers quickly.

Everyone has given you great advice. I can only say that you should treat her just like the other precious little girls. Of course, you want to avoid unecessary germs, but you'd do that with any newborn. Your clinic will most likely be very patient with you, and will probably answer questions you didn't even know you had. Just take it one step at a time, and it will all fall into place. The most important thing to do is enjoy that baby.

Keep us posted.
