I have a question does anybody else have white lines underneath their fingernails or is it something not related to cf? One of my classmates the other day thought that I had nail polish on and I told her no, I didn't.

I get more questions and comments in regards to my "clubbed" fingers, than the nails, but on occasion, my nails do have some white areas, which seems more like the upper layer had separated from the lower layer, causing an air pocket, or something to that effect. I also heard that foods like geletin will help improve the nails.

I am looking at some on my fingernails now and I am the mother of 2 cfer's....I don't think it has any relevance to CF and I am sure I have been told what causes it before, but I can't remember!

For some reason, i've never had any real clubbing. The little bit that I do have is extremely slight, and only partially noticeable on only a couple fingers.

I think this could be a zinc deficiency. Ridges on nails can be from clubbing but most likely from too little protein. I would do a search and see what comes up. You can always have a vitamin test

clubbing only really comes from having O2 deficiency at different times in your life. So if you've never really had low oxygen, you're probably not going to have clubbed fingers. One time i was really really sick with the flu/infection and my fingers acutally got clubbed, for like 6 months they were that way, and then it went away.

I get complments on my fingers on how good they look, the nail part that gets long is white and the rest look natural I guess, but people complment how healthy looking they are. My fingers are clubbed but not that much, when I was in highschool I got more people asking about the clubbed fingers not often tho, they mainly went and asked my sis or bro about it. A few only asked me about it. I guess I try to keep my nails looking good cause of the clubbiness in them, I try and make it look like my fingers arent clubbed, not possible but, I try.

I drink a lot of milk, so I guess that's why I don't have any white spots on my nails. I'm also lucky that I only have slight clubbing on a couple of my nails as well.
