definately take a spiral notebook or something like that to take notes in, basically every time someone comes in to do anything, make a note, there have been several times it has come in handy to us and it keeps you sane.
Also something that i have started doing recently is take a universal remote with you for your tv because you will go crazy pushing that same stupid button on the side of the bed to change channels. most of the tvs are just regular tvs retrofitted to work with hospital equipment so remotes work with them. but seriously taking a tv remote that you can program to work will save your sanity

Everything I can think of has been mentioned. The notebook and the antibacterial wipes are the first things I grab. I also always take my address book,,,you never know who you may want to get a hold of. We always take cards, games, craft projects, etc. One activity we took last time, (and I can't believe I never thought to pack this during prior admits...), was a madlib book. Every time someone came in the room Andrew would ask them for a few words. So then, every time he saw them again they would ask to hear the completed story. It gave him something to do. (Was a little scary, though,,how many medical professionals had to be told what the difference between an adjective and an adverb is!)

I really like this idea. Not just for the hospital, but in general...

You just gave me an idea for a new thread. We had a similiar one going at one time

Thanks
