First HS treatment today

I had my first HS treatment at the clinic today. It wasn't nearly as bad as I expected it to be. I know it's different for people, but for me, it just seemed like a regular breathing treatment. I did cough slightly more. I didn't really notice that it helped much (but it didn't hurt either).

Anyway, I was just wondering if there is anybody else that uses HS and their insurance pays for it? I have a call in to my insurance company, but I don't know yet if they will cover it. I have OSF HealthPlans. I know it's not that expensive, but when you live check to check, it's hard to come up with the extra $40 a month. Just curious if anybody has had their insurance pay for it. Thanks!

I am still on my parents insurance so im not positive about how much we have to pay for it but i know that if you get the two different concentrations of saline and mix them yourself that it is cheaper then having the pharmacy mix it for you. It really isnt that hard to mix either.

I LOVE the HS it helps me soooo much. I ushually use it while i vest and it works soooo good and helps me cough everything out! Hopefully it will be beneficial to you too!

Melissa:

How did you get your insurance to cover it? I was told the drug does not have some kind of NDC code or something like that and therefore can not be covered.

I would love to have it covered so any tips and info would be great!

I went thru the CF pharmacy which I have only done for the HS. It was too much of a headache for my local pharmacy I guess. They deal with many, many insurances & I made sure mine was one of them!

Thanks everybody for the tips. I still haven't heard from my insurance company. The cf clinic had thought there was another patient that had the same insurance as me that had paid for it, but they weren't sure. I'll probably have to call them if I don't hear anything by tomorrow.

Sue, you might want to try sitting in front of a fan while you get your treatment. I get hot just getting a regular treatment (from all the coughing). I don't usually sweat a ton, but sitting in front of the fan definitely helps me.
