First OB appointment

Hi everyone,

I had my first OB appointment today. Things went really good. I was there 2 1/2 hours though for my consultation...and they wanted me there longer! I met with the chief physician of the high-risk department. He was really great. He told me that he's had lots of CF patients come through there with their pregnancies and that there's currently another woman with CF that's pregnant. So that was neat to know. I had no idea so many CF women were getting pregnant nowadays! It's awesome!

Anyhow, I had my first exam and everything looked great. He said I'm at risk for premature labor (as is anyone with a chronic condition I guess) because of the stress on the body and/or getting sick during pregnancy. Did everone else hear that they're at risk for premature delivery because of CF?

So then I had my ultrasound to check for Down Syndrome. Not sure why they check it at 10-12 weeks, because I thought they did that at the 18-20 week ultrasound. I had my finger pricked too for the rest of the DS test. The neck thickness looked fine though. HR was 167.

What wonderful pictures! I've had a couple of ultrasounds already, but they were so early that mine didn't really look like a baby yet <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">. I will also be having my Downs screening at 12 weeks, I think they sometimes do it earlier now. I haven't heard anything yet about preterm labor, but I guess it makes sense. Congrats on a great appointment though!

I was never told anything about preterm labor - I guess there is a possibility but I wouldn't worry yourself about it. Awesome pics! The early screening is done this early because it is when thy can measure the nuchal fold. The later test is the AFP test (which I will decline). The only other way to check is w/ an amnio (or CVS if the early screening comes back positive). I have an appointment on wednesday w/ my peri and I'll be getting an u/s there. They always give us tons of pics, which I love.

over 2 hours?? I can't even imagine what you guys did/talked about for that long!

One thing I wanted to point out - you may want to edit your u/s photos to take your last name off of them. You never know who could be lurking. Just FYI.
