Avery was 2 years old when she had her first bronch. Our CF clinic does annual bronchs. She was not sick or culturing anything so we went home the same day.
Many people would say our docs must not worry about catching anything if they would put her in a hospital setting just to do a check up bronch. But our clinic is VERY aggressive. All CF docs are different and we love ours. Everyone should find a doc/CF clinic right for them.
Since then we have had 4 more bronchs. The third one she was admitted and spent three days in the hospital and came home with IV's. The reason for the IV's was she had cutured PA and MRSA in a throat culture beforehand. We got rid of PA (1 year now) and still have MRSA.
While in the hospital she did her Vest and hypertonic saline 3 times per day. (She normally does both twice a day) We took our own Vest even though the hospital provides one. I don't like sharing...yuk!
As a CF mom doing home IV's was scarey but do-able. Much better than being in the hospital for two weeks...our doc gave us the choice.
I hope this answers all your questions.
