General rule - keep sickies away from your baby. There is nothing wrong with somebody holding your baby unless they are sick or may be coming down with something due to known exposure to someone who has been sick. How sad not to let others bond with your little one!

Regarding the salt thing...our nutritionist said not to worry about "over salting" our daughter. She said it's essentially impossible given that she has CF. What do the rest of you think?

My son was in daycare sincehe was 6 weeks old, and once the meds were figured out he stopped getting sick. At first he wasn't being treated at all b/c we didn't know what was wrong so he was sick ALL THE TIME! By the time he was 2 1/2 though he was on flovent and albuterol w/ prophilactic antibiotics, and hasn't been hospitalized since. Sometimes the exposure helps the natural antibodies, and it just gets better. That's my experience anyway. I've never isolated my son, except from the aforementioned sick people. He was only tested for CF b/c he had a hx of lung problems and was 7 1/2 and the size of a 3 year old. He also was discovered to be pancreatic insufficient, so off for the sweat test! Err on the side of caution, IMHO, but don't go off the deep end.

Congrats on your little angel; what a beautiful one she is!

Wow, so strict! My daughter is almost 2 months old now, but we have never gotten any of those recommendations! Maybe because we already have a son w/ CF and they feel we've done it all before. Although they certainly stressed that she is her own little person.

Anyways, they also upped my daughter's Creon to a full capsule, and started us on CPT 2X a day for 10 minutes, but mainly to get used to the routine, as there are no lung problems yet. They did set us up w/ a few nebs and a compressor, but we only need to do albuterol if she is sick.

Why can't she go to the grocery store? Its not like everyone there will be touching her. Its nice to get out with the baby sometimes. And other people could surely hold her as long as they are not sick and wash their hands first.

Don't worry too much yet about her weight, they can have you mix the formula to be higher calories if needed, we did it with my son, no big deal. He gained weight really fast after that.

I guess the thing I'm trying to get across is to ENJOY YOUR BABY! I know its stressful and scary having a newborn w/ CF, I'm right there in the same boat with you. Don't be afraid to treat her like any other baby, to go out in public, or to share her with your family and friends. They are only this little once
