Hello. What information does any one have to contribute to the use of fish oil as a supplement for cf and inflammation. There are many interesting articles out their for the use of DHA and it's ability to combat inflammation.

Also another food idea-what has anyone heard about fageh (sp?) greek yogurt and Fezir milk. Both have great bacteria-good for cf's gastro issues. I am stumbling along this information and wanted to see if anyone else has more input.

Fage is a brand name of greek yogurt. It's strained, so it's really thick. Comes in Plain in 0% fat, 2% and whole milk. They also have some that comes with honey or strawberry on the side. Trader Joes make a flavored greek yogurt that's got the high fat contant, too. Stoneyfield Farms has started making a greek style yogurt, but doesn't have the HUGE percentage of fat that the Fage has. Or at least the stuff I found at the grocery store was very low fat -- maybe they make a fully loaded version. There's also something called Kefir -- which is like a thick, drinkable yogurt. Unfortunately, DS could care less about any of these things, and I do and I don't NEED all that extra fat.

I did make an inquiry to DS' CF doctor about studies on fish oil, but at the time his response what we'd have to give him about 20-30 fish oil capsules a day to make a difference and DS was an infant at the time. His formula did have DHA in it.

I don't have any technical information on fish oil for you but I'd have to say everything I've ever heard or read about it has been that it is good for a lot of reasons - seems like everyone should be taking it - myself included, but just never really get around to doing it.

We use a DHA supplement everyday about 250mg but depending on weight and age you may need to adjust. Nordic Naturals makes a wonderful strawberry gel for kids. We also add ground flax seeds to oatmeal, smoothies and other foods including breading for chicken fingers and as a topper for yogurt. I have archived a few articles and resources on DHA and CF here on our site http://www.cfnutrition4life.co.../articles.php?cat_id=6

Kefir is a wonderful probiotic drink which can be added to smoothies. I like the plain because it has no sugars in it and you can add your own flavors and sweeten with honey or agave which reduce blood sugar fluctuation. Like Lisa said, if your little one can tolerate dairy fairly well, the Fage yogurts are awesome. The "total" version is really high in fat. We add ground almonds and flax with banana and sweeten with honey. Fresh berries and granola for extras are great too.

Coconut milk is also a great high calorie, healthy fat to make drinks from. Cooking rice in coconut milk and even adding a bit of coconut oil to oatmeal gives a great taste and healthy calories which support gut health and balanced flora. Our son like half coconut milk and half rice milk blended with banana, ground almonds, and cocoa powder (sometimes a little agave or honey to sweeten a bit).

Best Wishes...and feel free to PM me for more information.
