Fitting treatments into the day

I'm 29 w/ CF and two little ones (no CF) at home. I just wanted to say that when I was younger my mother did CPT 2x a day when I was healthy and 4x a day when I was sick. I remember waking up super early before school to do them. But when time came for me to take on responsibility for my own health it was already embedded in me as part of my daily routine. And although I must admit I did slack off in HS and college, now as an adult I understand my treatments come first. Dirty dishes, laundry, it all can wait. And the waking up extra early part, Had to continue to do that while I was working. It's just part of my life and always has been. For me it's TOBI everyother month 2x a day. Has been for around 10 years. Those months I get up 30 min earlier and go to bed 30 min later. I think my compliance as an adult stems from the routines set during my childhood. I have learned to work around whatever obsticle CF throws at me, such as a 2 wk round of IV's with two toddlers at home. Your hard work and sacrifices do pay off and I thank my mother every day for doing everything in her power to keep me healthy and strong.

Tyler did great this evening with his first time doing the Tobi..I held him and held the mask on his face and his Daddy sat in front of us and played w/him and kept him occupied...he laughed a few times and cried some, but overall he did great! We were told to do the Tobi first then his CPT's b/c it opens the airways up so that the mucus can move through. Thank you all for the responses and advice. Hopefully tomorrow morning goes well w/his treatments!

Glad he tolerated it. When DS would cry, we'd usually laugh nervously and say, well, at least it's going deeper into his lungs with those deep breaths to yell at us. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Ashley, I would double check with your clinic and the tobi instructions because albuterol and/or atrovent (duoneb) is a bronchiodialator which is used to open up airways, which before or combined with CPT clears the way for the Tobi to get deep into the lungs to do its work. CPT after using tobi would most likely defeat the purpose. I've never heard of a clinic suggesting tobi be done first.

Also, on another note, to save time, it's my understanding that with the exception of Tobi or the other inhalable antibiotics you can do CPT or the vest at while nebbing -- albuterol, pulozyme, hypertonic saline (HTS)...

Tyler did SOOO great this morning w/his treatments. We woke at 7:00am did his CPT then gave him his Cipro then did the Tobi for 20min and he sat there and watched Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and he did soo well! He whined alittle, not bad though. He's such a trooper...soo proud of him!

Now...the Cipro says not to take antacids or vitamin/mineral supp. within 6hours before or 2hours after taking it. How in the world is he going to take his Prilosec and vitamins! Soo does that mean that 2hours after he takes the Cipro he can have his vitamins and prilosec? How do you all do it?
