Flovent question

we went to clinic visit today, and i should start with this is a new hospital we are going to because we moved so this is our second visit. we were being asked the usual questions we go thru at check up and when it came to meds it was stated in his chart that Aidan has asthma. i said no he has never been diagnosed with asthma. then i was asked well why is he taking the flovent? flovent is given for asthma patients. i explained that since day one of dx with his pulmanary meds he has been on flovent. he receives it after his albuterol.
so his new doctor tells us to stop the flovent. because its an anti inflammatory and it doesnt get to the small bronchi tubes. and hes taking the lowest dosage of it, and that people w/ cf not taking flovent dont have any symptoms showing they need it. she said that flovent is given for asthma treatment. and i know that asthma is common in cfers. but my argument is why change something if it works. aidan has never been in the hospital never had any major lung problems has only had antibiotics twice. and cultered pseudo once a year ago.
i was shocked and scared. so many things were going thru my mind about this new doctor and his past team that has never mentioned anything about taking aidan off flovent as he got older.
so we came to an agreement to stop the flovent and if we see aidan weezing or having a dry cough then he does need the flovent for the asthma because of the symptoms presented when he doesnt have it.
now dont get me wrong i would never want to give him anything else he doesnt need, cause of everything else he has to take one less thing would be a great thing. i was hoping that someone else has come across this too? im scared over here to have them come in after one visit and say this to me.

I understand your concern & although he might not be officially dx with asthma.....most CFers have inflammation issues!

If you decide to discontinue it then PLEASE keep a very close eye on him because it can sneek up quickly!

I have been told the the reason Marissa is on Flovent is to cut down the inflammation, which can lead to damage to her lungs. I read on the internet in other places that it is helpful with CF as well. I have also heard recently that CFERs are being given high doses of Ibuprofen for the same reason.

If you notice anything suspicious, I would definitely be calling that doctor back.

Good Luck,
Terry

see these are the thngs we said to the doc about the inflammation and we were told that the flovent doesnt reach all the way out to the outer bronchi where it needs to be treated by the flovent. i also read about the ibuprophin for inflammation. i just dont feel good about this decision, basicly because why would his past hospital not talk about this to us once over the past two and half years and our second visit in to this one were told to stop the flovent.
