Flovent Users

My little one is on flovent. She gets 1 puff 2x a day and she absolutely hates it. We puff her after her first treatment of the day and after her last treatment at night, so it keeps her airways open. Her last treatment is around 8:00ish so she usually sacks out during it, but the minute we puffer her, she wakes up screaming and then we fight her for almost an hour to get her back to sleep. Is there another time during the day that we could give her the second puff? Does anyone know how the flovent makes her feel, and could maybe let me know why it might bother her so much. She takes her xopenex, pulmozyne, and HTS without issues, it's just the flovent. Is pulmicort the same thing and can you neb it the same time as xopenex? Just curious, I know this is a bit long, but any advice would help<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I don't know what it would be. Flovent doesn't have any immediately noticeable effects that I'm aware of.

Both Pulmicourt and Flovent are corticosteroids, but not exactly the same. If Flovent is a problem, you should definately ask your doctor about switching to Pulmicourt.

I take Advair, which is Flovent and Serevent mixed together, so it's possible pulmicourt and xopenex can be mixed together, too. Be sure to check with your doctor, though.

Maybe she does not like the way it feels in her mouth - that wierd powdery feeling. I assume you're using a spacer - so maybe if she just breathed it via her nose and not her mouth it wouldn't leave that dry feeling.

One thing that has worked with my boy for nebulized things that are irritating (like Tobi and Hypersal) is to let him have a popsicle first; We get some called "mini might" or something like that, which are just a few bites in size so it doesn't add a bunch of time or sugar to the process; then he has ice water at his disposal also. Rinsing after the puff is also important.

The only thing that my son as complained is that it doesnt taste the greatest. It never felt funny or anything like that...at least that is what he has told us.
