Flu Shot

I have always thought that you are not supposed to get your shot if you are sick. However, my sister was just in the hospital about 2 weeks ago starting IV antibiotics for an infection and they gave her the flu shot while she was there. I believe she said the dr. ordered it. So, now I don't know either.

I very rarely get a flu shot myself for 2 reasons: 1. Fear of needles and 2. I know they say you can't get the flu from the shot, but since I can remember, the times that I did get the shot, I ended up getting the flu, and I don't remember ever getting the flu when I didn't get the shot. So, I'm not totally convinced on that one.

Hope you start feeling better.

I do get a flu shot every year. As I do often run low grade fevers and am on IV´s since over one year now, I could never get it if waiting to be healthy...
My doctors opinion is that it is less risk to get the vaccine than to take the risk to get the flu.
I did never have problems with the flu shot although often getting it when sick.

I have always been told as long as you dont have FEVER you are ok to get the shot. When I got mine this year, I mentioned it, b/c I too had been sick at the time. I was on Tobi and Zyvox (orally) and they had no problems at all with giving it to me. I did not get sick at all from it either.

My son's CF doctor said he cannot get the flu shot while he's on oral steroids - but his antibiotics were not seen as a problem.
