I was nervous about people having flumist and being around my son too, but the nurses told me that immediate contact was fine. The rate of transmission from a person who has recieved flumist is between 0.6%-2.4% according to studies. The said that there is so little of the live virus that its safe to be around people who are immune suppressed such as on chemotherapy or with HIV/AIDS. I felt comfortable with that information, and my husband received flumist with no compilations on my sons end. Totally your call, but thats just my two cents :)

All of my kids have gotten flumist for the last three years-even my dd with CF. There is so little virus and it is so weakened that there is very low risk. I wouldn't worry about your son's friend-though of course you should do what you're comfortable with.

Per the manufacturer's clinical studies they were able to isolate live virus from 80% of vaccinated patients, with a mean duration of 7.6 +/- 3.4 days.

Based upon this, it is POSSIBLE to contract it up to probably 1-1.5 weeks after the FluMist is given.

However, there is no way to determine the exact risk to your child; but their study implies it is <1% for 1 vaccinated child, and one non-vaccinated child in a daycare setting.
