I have had four collapsed lungs in the last 6 years. The last one was in September of 2010. I was scheduled to fly to California about a week after I was released from the hospital and, of course, the doctors told me not to do it. So I didn't. They said that flying after a pneumothorax was not safe and that I at least needed to wait 6 months.

I am scheduled to fly to Pennsylvania in a couple of weeks and i'm really starting to get nervous. I tried asking the doctors for advice on what I should do or if it was even safe to fly and they really aren't giving me any answers. All they tell me is that, "yes, it is a risk but you know what to do if it happens". That's just not enough for me. They can't tell me how much of a risk because there really hasn't been enough study on it.

Has anyone had experience with flying after a pneumothorax? I just don't want to get to PA and not be able to fly back. Or worse, end up in the hospital away from home. Any input would be great!! Thanks.
