I second what Jarod said. Health teacher does NOT = medical professional. And I hate people that think they know everything. That seriously pisses me off, I'd tell them to go to hell.

i think a simple explaining to the teacher will clear things up, cant be mad, not alot of people know about cf.. remember you always catch more flys w/ honey... going in w/ a bad attitude will get you nowhere... just explain that a cf persons diet is very different and maybe they will learn something new themselves...

We had to have our doctor provide a letter to DS's preschool regarding his need for high calorie foods and snacks -- butter, whole milk, treats in case social services came in to do an inspection for their licensing and wondered why they had all kinds of high calorie, high fat items in their kitchen. Oh, and lets not forget the extra salt. DS's new habit is to lick his spoon, sprinkle salt on it and eat it.

The CFF has some publications under nutrition and family that I've printed off and given to DS's teachers and have gotten some from our dietician. There are those who think they know more than the doctors and dieticians and try to tell me otherwise. I just do the eye roll -- whatever. Liza

I never thought of a seperate food pyramid for CF, but thats exactly what its like. It is very difficult to deal with people that dont know or understand the needs of CFers. The comments of clogging arteries (from the fats) or high blood pressure (from the salt) or weight gain (from the sugar) are irritating. Tho I think this woman needs to be informed I feel like (at this very moment) I couldnt do it without too much sarcasm. Most definitely she needs to be educated. Its already hard enough for kids (especially girls) to eat properly when certain images are "expected" & everyones body is different....now you throw CF into the mix & it becomes even harder! Good Luck!
