Am I the only one concerned by the fact she is on oxygen to take walks with PFTs at 96%?</end quote></div>

That's very strange to me, too. I am 27 and my lung function right now is mid 80s (normally 90s). While I do need ivs rather frequently, I don't need to use oxygen at all. I also agree with everyone about the dr...sounds like the dr has a very poor outlook on cf survival, and I'm not sure I'd want someone treating me that felt that way.

No Doubt the doctor is wrong. However, I am in my 20's (27) and my FEV% has been in the 30's for the past 5 years. I JUST started working out with Oxygen at Pulmo. Rehab. I am evaluated already for TX but I won't be "actively listed" until my PFT's are in the high teens or constistant low 20's.
WHY are you working out with OX if your pfts are that high??
As far as "mild" I would say it depends: if you are in your 20's and your PFTs are still way up there..you are DISPLAYING mild-like complications...however, I would consider MILD to be someone who is diagnosed in their 40+ because symptoms of complications were not noticed. You never know (not to be morbid) but for reasons that are many, you can take a nose dive quick and then forget the "MILD" diagnosis.

JUST MY 2 cents <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I am 26 and my FEV1 has been around 50% for about a year and a half. While I do get short of breath going up the stairs and walking uphill I do not require oxygen and have only been on IVs once! I culture pretty weak bugs, so even though they have done some damage to my lungs at least they are not resistant to antibiotics yet. At this rate I think I have at least 10-15 years before transplant is even considered! The comments by this doctor really bother me a lot! I would get a new one right away.
