For allergies--window treatments for new home

I am wondering what kind of window treatments are recommended for my new home that is being built. (Framing is up!) I want something that is easy and less time consuming for when I'm sick and keeps down the level of allergens. I have blinds now and because I admittedly didn't keep up with them, besides dust there is some kind of sticky residue that makes it impossible to just Swiffer the dust away. Maybe it's just because I'm renting and they're old, so I'm willing to give blinds another chance, however, maybe curtains are healthier, because you can just pop them in the washer. I don't iron though (don't even own an ironing board), so they'd have to be wrinkle free. Anyway, what do you guys think???

I wouldn't recommend curtains. They are a dust magnet and it would be difficult to want to keep up with them and wash them all the time.

I have "static free" blinds that are rouderless (sp?). They do not collect dust or very minimal dust. Rouderless means that each slat can be removed individually and cleaned. The most I really have to do is wipe down the window sill. They are AWESOME!

Something like tab-top curtains on cafe rods are very easy to open and close to control the amount of sunlight you want, have clean lines that don't collect as much dust as more ruffly toppers, and are very easy to remove to throw in the wash. I have some (cotton sailcloth and they come in many colors) from jcpenney that I like a lot; they come straight out of the dryer and are not wrinkled. (I own an iron but will will go to great lengths to avoid using it, haha. And these hang nicely without needing it.)

I've had blinds and they just seem to be dust magnets, no matter what I do with them. I know what you mean by that residue. Bletch. There are windows that have blinds between two layers of glass, but they are very expensive.

eta> skye and I posted at the exact same time with different ideas, I will say I love the idea of *her* blinds. I've never had that kind.

I personally like curtains and not too expensive cause then you can wash them. I find blinds although I do have them if you do not keep up with wiping them down they get yucky and grimy. But curtains you can just wash and good as new. I also vacuum my curtain tops and that helps too. But all in all I vote curtains just cause they can be washed
