For the ladies regarding Birth Control Pills

Do you think it is safe to be on birth contol pills while having to get picc lines? I am deciding if I want to go on them for acne but there is the concern of the yearly picc line that I get. There is a thought to stop the BP's prior to picc line and then restart them.

Any thoughts?

I've been on BC for acne for 4+ years and never thought to stop it while on a PICC line. No one ever reccomended it to me either... the nurses always knew I was on it.

I would just ask your doctor but I wouldnt think the BC should be a problem.

i've never had a problem with bc and a picc. i will tell you after i had my son last may i did really well health wise and didn't need iv's until the end of feb this year. the placement of my last picc was awful. the guy did a really bad job and he told me he was sorry for were the picc was placed. he told me no lie, that he liked to start farther down on the arm in the event the vein spasmed so that he could work his way up. he numbed my elbow down, not the site where the picc went. i wound up with a picc about two inches above (two inches may be generous too) above my elbow on the inside of my arm. i was on bc and wound up with a clot in my arm. but from my understanding the clot was caused by tramua to my vein. i'm a tiny person and a 3 french should be used on me, he used a 5 french. i had a few complications with this picc like i said. from the placement, the size of the picc, finding out that i'm most likely allergic to idodine, having the clot form, having the naval hospital look at me and tell me my arm is fine and send me on my way home with a clot in my arm. i don't believe the bc had anything to do with the clot cause it was in my arm where the picc was. sorry for the little rant, but i still have a little bit of a resentment towards this last picc lol.
