Hi Sonia,
I use the pens as well..... Maybe I'm not explaining it well enough? The pens do have smaller and finer gauge needles but I still position the needle the way I described and the only time my injection hurts is if it's time to change the needle.... sorry for not being able to explain it better. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif" border="0">

The stomach injections really burn for me too, so I use my thighs or upper arms (the outside rear part). But sometimes it burn there too, and I found one trick is to inject the insulin slowly. Like, 2-3 units and then pause for a second. It still burns a little, but if I inject it all at once it causes an incredible burning. Like the feeling you get when chewing Big Red gum. I use normal hypodermic syringes, which I think are easier to control than the pen... so it might take more effort to inject a few units at a time, but it's worth trying.

I am no longer on Humalog (I take Novolog now) but I used to get this sensation all the time. I actually came up with a solution for myself. I noticed that if I injected the medication slowly that the sensation was either not so bad or not there at all. The faster I injected the med the worse the stinging got.
Maybe that is something that could help you.
