I got my benefits 4 months after I filled this was back in 1990. But with the economy in the shape it is right now it takes a lot longer to get approved. My bff has CF and is at 33% lung function and they told her she could do a desk job and denied her, she is appealing but it could take a long time. She is on month 8 of trying to get benefits.

They keep telling Wendi that she doesnt meet the guidelines for SSDI. She has tried for SSI and is now in talks with legal aid to see what she can do. I told her to keep fighting and pushing with all she has. Her last FEV1 was at 35% and they think just because you go up a little you can regain all the way back up. I will keep you posted on how things turn out for her.

is she on tobi or cayston or coli?? those count as "exacerbations" and 3+ a year will qualify you for ssdi - that's how i got on. the first year I hit three rounds of ivs or inhaled antibiotics and applied right away. Also when you describe your "activity" describe it as if you are in the worst exacerbation you've ever had, not how you feel at the moment. This is what my doc told me and I was approved right away. Goodluck! Also try for food stamps, etc you will probably qualify and this will help slightly with monthly expenses. <3

Contrary to popular belief, simbly "being on" cayston, tobi or Colistin WILL NOT qualify you for SSDI. Those medications are now also used as maintenance medications and SSA has caught onto this fact. Thos who are applying for SSI/SSDI and hoping to go the "Exaserbation" route MUST make sure you are getting sputum cultures done at a minimum of once every 3 months.
