Hey tara. I have taken Forteo. I could not handle the pills. I did Forteo for 2 yrs. Yes it is a daily injection and you must be dedicated to it. One good thing about it is that you do not have to sit up with it. You can go to bed right after taking it, which is what I did. I hate needles, so I used Emla cream. With an ink pen, I would circle where I planned on doing the injection and placed the Emla cream on top of that and covered it with a tegaderm while I did my CPT. When that finished, I would clean off the cream, used an alcohol pad to sterilize the place, and injected the pre-calculated amount. It would sting just a little, but not bad. I could sleep through any side-effects, like bone pain. I dont remember getting any reflux issues with it either. I got great results with Forteo. I went from bad osteoporosis, to almost in the normal range. I cant remember my numbers right this moment but there was a huge difference. I had to get pre-approved from the Ins Co. They told me in order to keep from loosing what Forteo built up, I would need to take something else.
So that brings us to Reclast. I will be starting that on March 14th. I can use my port for the infusion. It is a 15 min infusion that is done only once a year. It is expensive so you have to get pre-approved with Ins. I'm not sure about the side effects, other than what the paper says...bone pain, flu like syptoms, etc. After I get my first dose, I will have to let you know how it was. You do have to take Calcium suppliments one week before and two weeks after the injection, which isnt bad. It's by pill. And drink a lot of water after the infusion for a few days. My CF Dr approved of doing the Reclast and Forteo.
If you have any questions, PM me, I will try to answer the best that I can <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">. I hope I was able to help you.
