Freaking out--cervical cancer?

I had the same thing a few years ago. Abnormal pap smear.....HPV....high risk for cervical cancer. I had to have Paps every six months for awhile. Since then, I switched to a new GYN. My Paps always come back normal now.

I wonder if having cf can give us abnormal results sometimes?

The thing that really upset me was that HPV is sexually transmitted. I don't know where it could have come from. I was a virgin when I got married and I know my husband's history also made it very unlikely.

Well I tried to send a PM but that didn't work.

Did your doctor suggest a cone biopsy? I had an abnormal pap, followed by a culposcopy that showed High Grade cell changes in my cervix. What this means is that if those cells were to be completely left in there they will eventually turn to cervical cancer. Your doctor will most likely suggest that you have the freezing procedure or a cone biopsy to remove the cells and then get more routine pap smears.

I'm scheduled for a cone biopsy on Monday. From there I will too have to make a decision about how to proceed. I have an added wrench in the game since I'm post transplant, my immune system will not be able to take care of the HPV on it's own.

Easier said than done, but try not to freak out. I definitley had my moment of crying but you just have to take this one step at a time.

Hi, all these women are spot on! I had a gyno tell me I had an abnormal pap and I had HPV (which flipped me out).... that was 15 years ago. His results were wrong! It was something called a false positive. I went to a different gyno and was fine. I really would def get a second opinion. Also, I would suggest that all woman who are sexually active get a gardasil shot (3 shots). That protects you from most strains of HPV. Also, if you do end up having HPV know that it is highly contagious..you should tell you current and future partners that you have this so they can protect themselves. I know that is really hard but it is the right thing to do. I really feel for you. Good luck.
