Angie,
I wanted to reply to you because my son was also 4 when he tested positive for cepacia. We were devastated. He went from a simple staph, straight to cepacia. We were always so worried about these super bugs we heard so much about that we seemed to take extreme precautions when going in for check ups. Our son was very healty, no lung issues ever (until cepacia). We were determined to keep him that way. Needless to say we were shocked and devastated when we got the phone call from the doctor. We came to find out later that our CF center at the time had the largest population of cepacia. I wish I would have known that before, I still have a lot of guilt about not protecting him. He is 11 now, soon to be 12, and is doing really well. He had a few hard years where he spent a lot of time in the hospital with pneumonia, but has been healthly for the last year and a half. We credit his good health to glutathione. Before we started him on it he was spiralling down hill, and the doctors really had no answers. We were tired of hearing the typical answer of "thats cepacia." That was their answer to everything, basically telling us there is no silver bullet when it comes to this bacteria. I am not saying that glutathione is the answer for everyone, but I credit it for giving my son his life back. We no longer give him prednisone or preventative antibiotics, which I believe was a big reason for his declining health. I hope all goes well with your son, it is a hard bacteria to deal with especially at that age, but it can be done.
