Friends don't understand

Don't you hate it when you trust a friend then you tell them you have CF! Then when you guys aren't friends any more they tell everyone. I had that happen to me many times. It make me really mad. Now I know that i can't tell her something important that I don't want to be heard. Now its hard for me to tell other friends and teachers.

Ya I agree with what that anonymous person said. I don't have CF but telling anyone u trust something that important.....well it just doesn't work out.

I would like to politely disagree with the last poster when they said "but telling anyone u trust something that important.....well it just doesn't work out." There are a lot of people out there that you can trust to tell that you have CF and they wont not be your friend because of it. Also if you do tell someone that you have it be sure to express to them whether or not you want that information to be shared with anyone else. One last thing, don't judge your other friends and teachers because of one girl's actions. Most teacher's are very supportive; as far as friends, they can be if you find the right ones.

I have to say i have been very lucky with my friends in that they've always been so supportive and interested on what's going on with my cf. Of course, i have experienced the odd ignorant comment from peers or just people in general and it hurts but i guess it's just one of those lessons along the way. I remember when i first discovered this site i read a message from another cfer who quoted a line that Gaston sings from the movie 'Beauty and the Beast' it was; 'We don't like what we don't understand' this, unfortunately, is what society can be like, NOT EVERYONE, but some people can be and unfortunately, (as sinatra used to say) 'That's Life'!

Hehe, that was me that originally quoted from Beauty and the Beast, unless of course there is another person out there that quotes lines from Disney Movies when responding to a post. =)
It's nice to know that the things you say are actually remembered.

I hate it, too. Well, not all of the people that I've told secrets to are like this, but some (one in particular) hold it over my head, like blackmail. If she's in a lousy mood (pretty much every day) or I bug her, then she threatens to tell one of my secrets (not so much the CF one, more often than not who I have a crush on) to my crush!!! I don't really want to be her friend anymore.....

Oh, and wyatt22, we're not talking about ALL people, just the so-called "friends" who aren't good at keeping secrets. We're not talking about ALL secret-keepers.

Someone shouldn't have to announce to you that you can trust them. Like they say, trust is earned and actions speak louder than words. So she should do something that gives you a reason to trust you; for instance, does she keep your secrets or never let you down. If the answer is no, then you probably shouldn't be friends with that person. Trust is the foundation to any good relationship whether it's friends or bf-gf. If they tell your crush you have CF it's not the end of the world. My parents told my gf of 6 years that I had CF and I was so mad at them for doing it because I thought she might get rid of me. Well, I finally got the nerve to ask her several years later what she thought of me having CF and her response was positive. She said she was much more attracted to me when she found out because she had no idea how strong I was and understood why I did some stuff that I did. Also, it brought her closer to me because I no longer had to hide things from her and life was so much easier afterwards. The invisible wall gets broken down when your "secret" is out. It's not your fault and there is nothing you can do about it. Don't be ashamed of it, it's hard at first to know that people are weird about it, but they get used to it and as you get older they respect you more for being open and truthful.

hey it is bad when your friends do stuff like that. But you should not be ashamed about your sickness. It is not catchable and if they don't except you after they find out then you know they arent really your friend.
