i visited there a few weeks ago, like everyone else said the smog is disgusting, you literally can't see more than about 2 miles because it gets to hazy from the smog. If you are flying in in the daytime as you get close look out the window at the layer of brown haze over the city. What airport are you coming into? I was at John Wayne, its a small airport and of course security is tight but the lines aren't too bad. With meds they will want to look at them, open bottles check for bombs etc. ask the person to put on a new pair of gloves for checking your meds, they use those same gloves to check shoes, etc. US law says if you ask them to put on new gloves they have to. Make sure the meds don't get xrayed it will ruin them and keep all of them in a carry on. Makes life easier if they loose luggage, which does seem to be a problem, i was with a group of about 150 and 2 suitcases went to Denver and another was ripped to shreds and came out peice by peice out of the luggage claim machine. In LA there are a lot of inattentive, careless, stupid, drivers (this doesn't mean everyone just a lot of people, don't be offended it's not directed to anyone) drive safe. At Universal Studios be sure to take the tour of the lot, its really cool, i dunno if you see a lot of American tv or movies but you can actually see the set used in several, the actual set, not some stupid thing they set up for the tour, you drive down whatever the desprite housewives street is where they film it, things like that don't miss it, the line is always long so do it early. Hope you have a great time here in the US

Chris,

We will also be vacationing in LA/San Diego in September. We also will be going to Universal Studios and Sea World. We are going to skip Disneyland though. I was not to impressed with DisneyWorld so we are going to go to Knottsberry Farm and Six Flags.

We are going to be there the last week of September. When are you guys going?

as far as skipping disney goes, definately skip the regular park but the Disney Land California Adventure has better rides, its good for an afternoon. Spend some time at the beach (no more than a morning or so it gets old fast cause the water is so cold and it's so crowded) there are a lot of cool things to see there. The Sixflags park isn't as good as many of the others but it'll be worth the trip, it is cheaper than Disney too. If you go to Rodeo Drive to see the stars on the ground and the Chinese Theatre avoid the people dressed up in costumes, and don't take their picture, if you do they will want a dollor, if you don't give them their dollor they can sometimes get forceful, (follow you around a while, things like that, just avoid them) all the gift shops up and down rodeo drive have basically the same stuff so don't expect to spend to much time shopping around
