Just waiting to hear what the doc has to say. He said I shouldn't need to come in for another culture cause that would take another 3-4 days of just waiting so he'll re-look at my sensitivities and make a determination on any changes. I'll keep ya'll posted!

I am really glad you made that call and what a beautiful post you wrote. Sometimes I think what is difficult with CF is those times when we don't feel like something is right and we know we have to make a decision to call, pester, insist that something be changed, get a 2nd opinion, or find another answer. It is those times that we are having to fight and play "doctor", if you will. We essentially become our own physician for a short period of time, because they would just keep doing what they always do. Once we make a decision to call or go for that 2nd opinion, the load feels lighter. We have to know we are doing everything we can.

Karen,

YES! I totally agree.... its almost the anxiety over having to "fight" for what we know is the right thing.

I just heard back from the doc. They checked my culture from the 13th of Feb. and I am sensitive to merrum and tobra (just like before), however they want to "shake things up" a bit and stop the merrum and instead switch to ceftazadine??? I've never been on this one. Is there anything I need to worry about? I'm going to be doing it IV push over 2-3 minutes, which will be nice instead of waiting 60+ minutes for the "balls" to infuse. Any info. you can give me on this med would be great.

They said I am pretty much sensitive to everything still *YAY!* So, not sure why the merrum and tobra isn't working, but why not try another combo. I feel confident about this. I also asked aobut the tobra every 24 hours instead of every 8 (cause this is also new to me) and they said its a "new" thing they've found works well with tobra infused... a bigger dose once a day versus smaller doses throughout the day.

Anyway, I will keep everyone posted. Thanks again for all the warm posts. I love you guys!

I was on Ceftazadime (sp?) this past July. It is really nice to do the IV push!!!!!!! Just make sure you do take your minutes to do it. I did mine over 5 minutes just to be safe. You don't want all of it at once. I did not have any real annoying side effects at all. I am glad you are feeling more confident about your care and I am proud of you for sensing that things were not right and bugging your clinic. The only way they know is by telling them. Some times we have to tell them REPEATEDLY! Buy hey, they're not the ones that have to deal with it. They get to go home at 5:00. I am interested to know more about benefits of 1x/day Tobra. I don't use Tobra anymore because my ears ring. I'd like to know if it is less scarey for kidneys and ears at that 1x/day schedule. If you feel up to it, would you PM me with any info.
