Fun Way to teach kids about CF?

I am a guest speaker at my friends house (they homeschool). The kids are 3 to 5 years old. They are focusing on the lungs right now and would like me to talk with them about CF.

Does anyone have some fun ways to explain CF? I was thinking of maybe a blown up balloon with something sticky inside to show CF lungs with mucus. Then shake it up and show them what Avery's vest does to clear her chest. I am not sold on this idea, so any ideas are appreciated!

Read them the book Mallory's 65 roses. Or there's the video from the UK which several people on this site have posted links. Sophiesmum and Lisa Greene both have it posted, as do others.

Bill Nye, the science guy, has a great video about CF. I think you can get it from CF services Pharmacy.
Sharon, mom of Sophia, 9 and Jack, 7 both with cf, Grant, 2 and Paige, 5 months both without cf

Its been 4 years so I don't remember all the details - if you like the idea you might practice it first! I took a large white poster board and cut it in half. Drew an outline of lungs on each one. Put strips of double-sided scotch tape on the "CF" lungs.

Use craft pom-poms as Germs. Hold the non-CF lungs poster and toss the pom-poms at it. They slide right off! Toss pom-poms at the CF lungs poster and they stick to it. Then shake/tap the poster to show what it takes to get the germs out of CF lungs.

My recollection is that I had to try several sizes of pom-poms ahead of time before I got the right effect. I presented this to DD's preschool class and it went over very well! I also took her vest to school and let any kid that wanted to try it. That went over REALLY well!

Also - I always choke up when I read Mallory's 65 Roses, but I did read that to her pre-K class the next year.

For that age group, I like the book Cadberry's Letters the best, avail on amazon. So sweet and beautiful art.

Plus, here is a link to my website with several very cute videos for young children: <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.happyheartfamilies.citymax.com/videas_teach_cf.html
">http://www.happyheartfamilies..../videas_teach_cf.html
</a>
And, here is a script, "visual aides" and audio recording of me teaching children about CF in a classroom setting: <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.happyheartfamilies.citymax.com/ClassmateTeaching.html

</a>
If you want to do something fun, make up some fake mucous. Do a google on the recipe for homemade GAK or SLIME. Always a winner when you add green coloring. :)

Good luck and have fun with it!
