GOOD LUCK with all, I was fortunate in that I had my transplant in NY, and live in NY also. All the best to you and keep us updated.

I have not checked lately, but COTA (Children's Organ Transplant Organization)--cota.org handles the funds raised for children & adults with CF. They keep no portion of the funds raised and as a matter of fact, they chip in money when you get to certain levels. All donations are tax deductible and if you do happen to pass on, your funds will go to another transplant person (my guess is this is where they get their funds to chip in when you reach those levels).I think most people that donate would prefer the money go to your survivors, but also would be glad to see that money go to help someone else. I think the reason the money would not go to your family is because of the tax deductible aspect.

What Transplantmommy did works too and seems the easiest to me, however, donations are normally not tax deductible unless they have filed with the IRS for a non-profit status and will then file returns showing donations, how money spent, etc.

If/when I get listed for a transplant we would have to relocate, husband would have to quit or switch jobs to another city, etc. so I know what you mean about these expenses not covered by insurance

Keep us posted on what you decide to do.

I too have been looking into fundraising options for Garran. And have received the informational packets from COTA and NTF, but the 5% that NTF keeps doesnt seem all that right but they do take care of the non-profit status etc... And COTA only pitches in a certain amount even if you raise over that amount, they will cap off what they match. It is nice that they match tho.

I don't like having someone tell me what is transplant related and what isnt, and when Garran can have the money that we worked hard to raise for our son. And some things that we have expenses for because of having to relocate etc, they do not consider transplant related and will not allow the funds to go to it.

I like what tranplantmommy did but I dont know how I could do that since both of our families (my husbands and mine) are located all over the country. It is so hard to try and figure out and be in the middle of the tx process already.

I had some people say they wanted to help but then I never heard from them again after that. It is kinda disheartening, and sometimes kinda lonely to be here in a state where we know absolutely no one. And the only people we do know are in the same curcomstance we are in cause they are transplant families too...

Anyway, I will look into these ideas.

Hey
When My son went though tx, we started saving as soon as he was listed. but i know that some churches in our home town raised money for us for some other things( our town built us a house) they started their own account and labled it House for Hubie and there was no tax. Also if you belong to a church and trust them ask them for help. Our community is awesome! They helped us with expenses and helped payed bills for us when we were away
