Fungal cultures

I've cultured a "rare yeast" with a note on the lab report saying "contact lab if further testing is to be pursued," but my doctor wasn't concerned. I also cultured candida kefyr at a different time. When I asked here about the candida kefyr, someone here, Kaylinsmom, replied that her daughter had grown it too, in her esophagus, found during an endoscopy, and was put on meds to treat it. She couldn't remember the exact med, but her daughter had been having swallowing difficulties.

Do you use an inhaled steroid, like pulmicort or symbicort or advair? I do, and I think my doctor assumed the yeast came from my mucus passing by the thrush in my throat.

I don't know how dangerous it is believed to be in lower airways but here are a couple of articles related to candida and CF.

For years, I'd cultured Pseudomonas and MRSA. I've now had 3 cultures without Pseudomonas and my last culture didn't have MRSA either, but had "rare yeast" too with no other abnormal airway flora. This is the first time I cultured it. My doctor is not concerned at all and is, in fact, extremely excited that I'm 3 cultures PA negative and now am not culturing MRSA either. I've also had a massive upswing in my FEV1. He said culturing yeast is very common, it's usually transient and is probably just growing in there because nothing else is at the moment. He said it may have even hitched a ride on the sputum I coughed up for the sample from my mouth or throat. I know some people have problems with it, but I'm clearly not at all.
