Hey everyone!!

Has anyone ever had to deal with constant Staph infections around the G-tube site?? After Dylan gained all his weight, the first tube was to small. So they put a bigger one in and that seemed to work great until he started loosing weight even while feeding. Now this one seems to big now. His GI Doc ordered a new one and we will put it in when his belly heals from the infection.

Are staph infections normal and will this happen all the time??

Thanks for any advise,

Hi Tina!!

We haven't had any infections around the stoma site, yet, but I do know of many kiddos (non-CF) with g-tubes that battle this. Hopefully after letting him heal a bit, the new tube will resist in fection. You might try on of those antibacterial guazes with the split down them to place between the button and his skin for awhile.

I hope it gets better soon.

I agree with the last reply. Try the gauze it may help. My son had a G tube for a few years and then they changed him to a G-J tube. Mayb sk the doc about that. It could help with the weight and if he has any reflux at all.

my daughter doesnt have a gbutton. But my first daughter use too. I just know what they told me, that the sight does get sore alot due to it moving on the skin alot something like that--im speaking from experience 6 years ago. Anyway like the people said on here use a gauze. If you cant find one with a split in it then fold it in half and cut a small circle on it,big enough to go over the button. Do this everyday due to the leakage but change several times a day especially if leakage is a problem. If you run out of gauzes then use a thin tampax and cut a hole in it and naturally put the soft side down. To men it might sound horrible but it works. Also ask for silver nitrate sticks to get rid of the red swollen irriatation if any but be very cautious useing them! Do your best to only get it on the irritation, because it burns your skin. Have your pediatrician to demonstrate. I guess they still let parents do that
