my daughter also was diagnosed with "delayed gastric emptying" and they put her on a med called reglan for quite a long period of time..it can have alot of major side effects, but luckily she didnt have any and i eventually weened her off. did your son have the nissan fundolopication procedure at the same time as the gtube to stop the reflux???

Hi Amber -- sorry to hear your daughter needed to have a tube placed. We don't use sterile water. I'm guessing they are having you do that because she's so young -- like you do for formula etc. when they are little. I'm sure they will let you switch soon.

As for the formula still being in there after so much time, no it shouldn't be that way. But honestly so quickly after surgery, her system may be seriously slowed. Alyssa struggled for two months with slow motility and high amounts of reflux post surgery....its a combinatioin of being under anesthesia, the opiates they use for pain management etc.

Is she passing stool okay? If she isn't and she isn't digesting the formula, I'd talk to the docs. If she is stooling and her stomach is just working slowly, I think I'd just give it a little more time.

Some doctors recommend using sterile water for making a baby's formula. Someone must do it because there is sterile 'nursery water' in the baby formula section at most grocery stores.

The only babies I ever used formula for were adopted siblings and we used tap water to make their formula.

The reason you're being told to use sterile water is because baby is 3 months and they would tell you to use sterile water to mix her formula to drink too.

IMO, if you have reliable tap water, there should be no need to use sterile water in the g-tube at all.
