Oh funny G-tube story. I was in the hospital for a post transplant bronch and when I woke up, I was like well while we are at it, let's get this thing out of my stomach. I had stopped using it and I hated it. So the surgical intern comes over takes it out and is like okay good luck see ya later! I was like um, excuse me, I realize I'm not a doctor, but common sense tells me that I have had this feeding tube in for 8 years and that this hole is pretty well healed the way it is. The intern was like oh no give it about 4 weeks and it will be all closed up. I decided to humor him.
Well I went for four weeks dealing with stuff leaking out of my stomach. I ended up having to always have a gauze pad over the hole and I would wrap an ACE bandage around my stomach.
The last straw for me was when I was driving and drinking a Starbucks coffee and the entire cup of coffee poured out of my stomach as I was drinking it. hahah it was really funny. Needless to say, I called my doctor, told him I had given his intern the benefit of the doubt and now we were doing it my way. Went in for the surgery, they sew up your stomach then sew up skin and you are ready to go. I would say just skip everything I went through and go ahead and get it sewn up. the scar looks a bit like a bullet wound.
